ZINES subsite mission statement:

I am a big believer in the intrinsic therapeutic benefits of art, creativity, and self expression, and I think zines are a terrific medium for self expression. This ZINES subsite mission is to promote, help educate, and be a resource for the zine community.

What is a zine?

Zines are self publications. Zines can take many shapes and forms and are only limited by their maker's imagination. They are traditionally made of paper (like their namesake "magazine") but can be electronic as well, taking advantage of the multimedia nature of electronic documents. Zines are typically a DIY affair but can be professionally produced.

Why zine?

Zines are a terrific medium for self expression. They can be as simple or as complex to make as you'd like them to be. When you make a zine, there is no big tech company looking over your shoulder, manipulating you with an algorithm. You are in control of what you create, how to create it, and how you'd like to distribute it.

Also, zines are super fun to make! :)
